Red Light Therapy for Injury Recovery: Just a Wellness Trend or Scientifically Proven?

If you’ve suffered a sports-related injury or muscle strain, you’ve probably iced it, rested it, maybe even stretched or massaged it. But what if healing could happen faster, with less pain, and without pharmaceuticals?
At Wellness By Resolve, we offer whole-body Red Light Therapy (RLT) as standalone sessions or as a part of our Recovery and Performance protocols — and we’re here to tell you: it’s not just a trend. It’s backed by robust science and trusted by elite sports professionals, physiotherapists, and biohackers around the world.

What is Red Light Therapy?
Red Light Therapy (also called Low-Level Laser Therapy or Photobiomodulation) uses specific wavelengths of light — usually between 600 and 1000 nanometres (nm) — to penetrate the skin and stimulate cellular repair mechanisms.
This light reaches deep into muscles, tendons, and even bone, triggering a mitochondrial response that enhances ATP (energy) production. More ATP means your cells can regenerate and repair more efficiently — a critical factor in recovery from sports injuries.
The Scientific Evidence: What the Research Really Says
1. Reduced Inflammation & Faster Muscle Recovery
A 2015 randomized controlled trial in the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation found that RLT significantly reduced muscle soreness and markers of muscle damage post-exercise. Participants who received RLT before and after workouts had less Creatine Kinase (CK) in their blood — a marker of muscle trauma — and reported less pain and better performance (Leal Junior et al., 2015).
2. Enhanced Healing of Soft Tissue Injuries
A major review in The Lancet covering 16 placebo-controlled trials concluded that RLT significantly reduced pain in chronic joint conditions like tendonitis and osteoarthritis, suggesting enhanced tissue repair and reduced inflammation (Bjordal et al., 2006).
3. Accelerated Tendon and Ligament Repair
A 2020 meta-analysis published in Lasers in Medical Science confirmed that red and near-infrared light promotes collagen synthesis, angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels), and fibroblast proliferation, all key mechanisms in ligament, tendon, and connective tissue healing (Hamblin, 2020).
4. Pain Relief Without Side Effects
Pain relief from Red Light Therapy is also well-documented. A study in the Journal of Athletic Training found that RLT reduced DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) and joint pain following high-intensity exercise, with no side effects or skin damage reported — making it ideal for long-term use (Dina et al., 2014).
Who Is Red Light Therapy For?
Whether you're:
A professional athlete managing long training blocks
A gym-goer or runner with repetitive strain or niggles
Recovering from injury or surgery
Dealing with persistent joint or muscle pain
Red Light Therapy offers a non-invasive, clinically proven way to support healing, reduce downtime, and improve your physical performance.
What Makes Our Red Light Therapy Different?
At Wellness By Resolve, we use a full-body red light therapy bed with over 50,000 red lights — giving you even, whole-body exposure to red and near-infrared wavelengths. This is superior to handheld devices or facial-only RLT, ensuring your entire musculoskeletal system benefits.
Sessions range from 15–45 minutes and can be combined with hyperbaric oxygen, infrared sauna or cold plunge for even greater benefits.
